On 19 October 2016, the Sky and Space Intergroup of the European Parliament successfully held the last "space event" of the year. MEPs, EU officials and Industry representatives discussed together the topic of "Space and Connectivity", and more specifically, how the EU Space Policy can help to achieve the objectives of the EU's Digital Agenda and Digital Single Market strategy.

Chaired by MEP Monika Hohlmeier, this high-level lunch debate addressed the role that space systems can bring in the transition towards a digitalized and data-driven economy. It was also the occasion for the European space industry and operators to remind that having a complementarity between terrestrial and space-based infrastructures is essential to achieve European-wide connectivity, particularly in remote and rural areas, in order to bridge the digital divide across the EU.
