WORKING BODIES

Eurospace is the professional association of the European space industry.

As such Eurospace is the reference body for consultation and dialogue within the industry. The main focus of Eurospace is space policy and strategy. The association regularly issues recommendations based on the identification of issues affecting industry as a whole. The association maintains a permanent policy, programmatic, and technology watch through the activities of its Task Forces and with the support of the Executive team. The knowledge and understanding gained are used to promote a more space conscious Europe.

Policy Committee

The Eurospace Policy Committee is meant to provide guidance to the Secretary General to orientate the activities of the Association and prepare the major decisions to be submitted to the Council.

Task Forces

Activities are carried out within Task Forces, created at the initiative of the Policy Committee. Task Forces are composed and chaired by industry representatives. Coordination and support (minutes, invitation, supporting data and documents…) of Task Forces activities is provided by Eurospace Executive. Task Forces are created with a specific objective and a limited time frame. They can involve a subset of Eurospace members and can accommodate the participation of non member entities.

Research & Technology

European institutional support to Space Research Technology and Innovation is an essential policy tool paving the way for industry competitiveness and effectiveness in the future. It is an important topic on Eurospace policy agenda since the late 90s. With its involvement in essential processes such as the ESA end-to-end technology strategy and the technology Harmonisation, the European Union commitment to support space systems innovation in its Framework Programmes, and transversal actions such as the Joint Task Force (for dependence reduction), Eurospace has established a constructive dialogue with institutions, able to convey industry inputs for the definition of development action plans. This dialogue is articulated through a variety of industry coordination instruments, built over time.

Today, Eurospace resources regarding Research & Technology are mostly devoted to the ORDIN Process.

Standardisation & ECSS Reimbursement Procedure

Eurospace is the space industry standardisation body.

Eurospace standardisation activities are currently organised within the Standardisation Working Group (STWG). This Group organises industry positions required at all levels of the standards generation processes (including ECSS, CEN, ISO, and all relevant bodies)

REACH

In 2011 an Agency-Industry REACH Working Group was set up, with ESA coordination, to monitor and address REACH issues affecting the space sector. This WG monitors in particular the evolution of the REACH Candidate List, Annex XVII (Restrictions List) and Annex XIV (Authorisation List) and its impact on the space sector.

Since 2012 the REACH WG activities were put under the mandate of the Materials and Technology WG of the CTB that later transformed into the MPTB (Materials and Processes Technology Board). Eurospace monitors activities of the MPTB to enable the identification of actions requiring joint industry actions; key Eurospace member companies also participate in the regular WG and Task Forces meetings.

In the frame of REACH activities Eurospace liaises with the ASD REACH & Chemicals Management Working Group, ensuring appropriate information flow and coordination of actions between space and aeronautics sectors.

EEE parts and components

Eurospace is a signatory to the ESCC Charter. Eurospace electronic components activities are currently organised within the EEE Components panel.

The Eurospace EEE panel aims at bringing together industry views and concerns about all electronic components activities and more specifically to prepare Eurospace consolidated positions for the industrial representatives who participate to the meetings of the respective bodies within the framework of ESCC.
