PRESS RELEASE: Eurospace General Assembly appoints André-Hubert Roussel as President of Eurospace

The Eurospace General Assembly has, on June 24th 2020, appointed André-Hubert Roussel President of the organization, succeeding Jean-Loïc Galle.

Following his appointment, André-Hubert Roussel, CEO of ArianeGroup and now also President of Eurospace, the association of European space industry, said: “Space activities are one of the building blocks of Europe and, by definition, demand close cooperation to achieve common success. At a time when the economic and strategic sovereignty of Europe needs space more than ever, this appointment to the helm of an organization which brings together almost every company in the sector is a responsibility that I accept with enthusiasm and pride. Together, we will strengthen the resilience of European industry, its independence and its competitiveness. Operational programs such as Galileo and Copernicus, meteorological satellites, the many scientific and exploration missions developed by ESA, communications and observation satellites, and the Ariane and Vega launchers are among the accomplishments that contribute to the influence of Europe in the world. It is our duty to prepare for the future together, in the aftermath of this terrible COVID-19 crisis, and to anticipate the challenges of tomorrow, whether digital, strategic or climate-related. Europe’s autonomy in space is crucial to the effectiveness of many public policies, to the wellbeing and safety of Europeans, and to economic growth. Europe needs space and space needs Europe more than ever before.

Olivier Lemaitre, Eurospace Secretary General, added: “I am delighted with the appointment of our new President. Now, more than ever, space-related matters are vital; we need strong leadership and a firm commitment from our members. The space sector is one where competition does not prevent industrial companies from working together compatibly and efficiently for the benefit of all. Our mission today is to show European policy-makers that space is no longer just about technology and science, but that it is a strategic tool for the European economy and its influence worldwide.

Eurospace wishes to express its gratitude to former President Jean-Loïc Galle for his successful years of presidency at the service of the organisation and is delighted to welcome André-Hubert Roussel who will undoubtedly take up the many challenges and opportunities Eurospace has to offer.
