Political priorities and active Policy Task Forces
Eurospace’s work is driven by the policy events and strategic milestones of the European space sector. We follow closely the decisions and initiatives of the European Union, ESA, and national authorities, ensuring that industry’s perspectives are reflected at every stage. From long-term budgetary frameworks and space strategy updates to new programmes on Earth observation, connectivity, and exploration, these policy developments shape our agenda and priorities. By aligning our activities with the institutional calendar, we make sure that the voice of industry is present where it matters most, contributing to Europe’s ability to define and implement an ambitious and sustainable space policy.
Eurospace is organised around Task Forces, which are created in response to the policy priorities shaping the European space sector. These Task Forces are the engines of our work, producing Position Papers, responses to official consultations, and other advocacy material. Once a Task Force has fulfilled its mandate, it is placed on hold or decommissioned. In parallel, Reference Groups serve as information channels, functioning as mailing lists through which targeted updates on specific topics are shared. Each Eurospace company may nominate as many representatives as needed to these groups. While Reference Groups do not produce work, they ensure that members are directly and efficiently informed on issues of strategic relevance.
Currently, Eurospace active Task Forces are the following:
- EU Space Act: established in view of providing Industry consensual recommendations to European institutions on the “Proposal for a Regulation on the safety, resilience and sustainability of space activities in the Union” (the EU Space Act).
- Cassini 2.0: provide concrete recommendations to the European Commission for the creation of a flexible instrument to support innovation, enabling industry to propose innovative ideas and securing funding for demonstration missions or services
- Space Safety: initially established in view of consolidating a sector-wide support for a joint European approach on Space Traffic Management in a context where it has been recognised as an issue of strategic importance by the European and national institutions, its work has been enlarged to tackle all aspects related to space safety
- ESA Industrial Policy: provide Industry consensual recommendations to the ongoing reflections at ESA level regarding industrial policy (including industry profitability)
