Signature of Memorandum of Understanding with the European Commission
The SPACE AISBL (composed of EUROSPACE, SME4SPACE, ESRE, EASTRO and EASN) is thrilled to announce the signature of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the European Commission, officially establishing the Globally Competitive Space Systems Co-Programmed European Partnership.
The Globally Competitive Space Systems Co-Programmed European Partnership is officially launched after the signature of the Memorandum of Understanding by the European Commission and the SPACE AISBL on Tuesday, September 10th 2024 in Brussels (Belgium).
After having warmly thanked the European Commission services for the support through the various steps of the process, SPACE AISBL President Jean-Charles Treuet declared that “the signature of today is a positive signal for the competitiveness of the European space sector as it officially recognises the value of the inputs from the actors whose products are actually facing the international competition”. He also hoped that by the sheer force of the its existence and the tangible results that the SPACE AISBL is eager to demonstrate, the Partnership will facilitate the emergence of larger ambitions for Space Research & Development in the next Multiannual Financial Framework of the European Union.
Background:
The Globally Competitive Space Systems Partnership is launched with up to 100 Millions € of EU Funding for R&I (to be leveraged through additional in-kind contributions by the partners to reach 220M€), and a short window of operations, targeting the calls 2025, 2026 and 2027 of the Horizon Europe Work Programme.
On March 2024, a preliminary plan for the Globally Competitive Space Systems Co-Programmed European Partnership was being released by the SPACE AISBL, proposing to focus until the end of Horizon Europe on cohesive activities in the domain of digital developments under the grand heading of Digitalisation for Commercial Space solutions (see here).
Next steps:
The European space supply chain, under the lead of the SPACE AISBL, will now start to reflect on recommendations to apply the specific objectives of the Partnership to the Horizon Europe Work Programme of 2026 and 2027.
